What is ACSS Conductor

Aluminum Conductor Steel Supported (ACSS) is an upgraded version of traditional ACSR (Aluminum-Clad Steel Reinforced Conductor), representing an aluminum alloy steel-cored supported conductor. It stands as a highly advanced bare conductor in power transmission lines, particularly in high-voltage transmission lines.


Consutruction 

Outer layer: Fully Annealed Aluminum is used. 

Inner core: High-strength steel core (galvanized, aluminized, or Mech steel). 


Advantage

 High Temperature Resistance (Emergency Loading): Operate at high temperatures ranging from 200°C to 250°C for extended periods
Low Sag: Due to the annealing process, when heated and expanded, aluminum wire does not sag significantly like ordinary aluminum wire, thus reducing the risk of electric shock and allowing the use of shorter utility poles.
Damping: The soft aluminum layer possesses excellent mechanical damping characteristics, which can mitigate the damage to the circuit caused by high-frequency vibrations induced by wind.

Application

Suitable for areas with large spans and severe fluctuations in current load (such as certain industrial areas in Africa with rapidly growing electricity demand).
