Product Description

Aluminium Armoured Cable 3×240+1×120 mm² XLPE PVC 0.6/1kV

Product Overview

Aluminium armoured cable is widely used in low-voltage power distribution systems for industrial facilities, infrastructure projects and commercial installations.

This 3×240+1×120 mm² aluminium power cable features three 240 mm² main conductors and one 120 mm² additional conductor. The cable is constructed with XLPE insulation, steel tape armour and a PVC outer sheath, providing electrical insulation and mechanical protection for power distribution applications.

Designed for 0.6/1 kV systems in accordance with IEC 60502-1, this aluminium conductor cable is suitable for projects requiring a robust armoured power cable construction. The combination of aluminium conductors and steel tape armour makes it an option for industrial power distribution where conductor weight, material cost and mechanical protection are important considerations.

Cable Construction

1.Aluminium Conductor

The cable consists of stranded aluminium conductors arranged in a 3+1 configuration, with three 240 mm² main conductors and one 120 mm² additional conductor.

Aluminium is a practical choice for power distribution cables due to its relatively low weight and material cost compared with copper. The conductor cross-sections should be selected to meet the current-carrying capacity, voltage drop and short-circuit requirements of the electrical system.

2. XLPE Insulation

Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation provides electrical insulation and thermal performance for low-voltage power cables.

For the specified 0.6/1 kV cable design, the nominal insulation thickness is 1.7 mm for the 240 mm² conductors and 1.2 mm for the 120 mm² conductor. The insulation system is designed in accordance with the applicable requirements of IEC 60502-1.

3. Steel Tape Armour

Steel tape armour provides mechanical protection against external damage during cable handling, installation and service. This construction is commonly used in armoured power cables for industrial and infrastructure applications.

The suitability of the armour depends on the installation method and the level of mechanical protection required. Installation in ducts, trenches or other environments should follow the applicable project specifications and electrical regulations.

4. PVC Outer Sheath

The PVC outer sheath protects the cable assembly against handling damage and environmental exposure. It forms the external protective layer over the armoured cable construction.

The sheath thickness and material properties should meet the applicable cable design and standard requirements for the intended installation environment.

Electrical Performance
The electrical performance of an aluminium power cable depends on conductor size, operating temperature, installation conditions and system design.
The maximum DC conductor resistance at 20°C for the specified aluminium conductor sizes is:
• 240 mm² aluminium conductor: 0.125 Ω/km
• 120 mm² aluminium conductor: 0.253 Ω/km
These values are based on IEC 60228 requirements for Class 2 aluminium conductors. DC resistance at 20°C should not be confused with AC impedance or conductor resistance at normal operating temperature.
The current-carrying capacity of the completed cable must be determined according to the installation method, ambient temperature, conductor operating temperature and applicable electrical requirements.

Typical Applications
This 3+1 core aluminium armoured cable is intended for low-voltage power distribution systems where the specified conductor configuration and cable construction meet the project requirements.
Typical applications include:
• Industrial plants and manufacturing facilities
• Mining and mineral processing facilities
• Ports and bulk material handling installations
• Commercial and industrial buildings
• Infrastructure and utility distribution networks
• Suitable underground power distribution installations
For each project, cable selection should consider rated voltage, load current, voltage drop, short-circuit withstand capability, installation conditions and local electrical regulations.
