Designed for life safety and critical power continuity, this 0.6/1kV Fire Resistant Power Cable ensures circuit integrity during a fire event. Rated for 0.6/1kV (U₀/U), this cable combines XLPE insulation for high thermal performance with steel wire armor (SWA) for mechanical protection. Crucially, it complies with EN 60332-3-24 Category C for vertical flame spread on bunched cables—meaning it limits flame propagation in cable trays, tunnels, or risers, preventing fire from spreading between floors or compartments .

Why Cat.C? Category C is the most common requirement for general building applications where moderate fire load exists. It provides a cost-effective balance between fire safety and cable design compared to higher categories (Cat.A/B), which demand lower non-metallic volumes 

Technical Construction (Layer-by-Layer)

 

1. Conductor:

Stranded annealed copper (Class 2 per IEC 60228). High conductivity with excellent current carrying capacity .

2. Fire Barrier (Circuit Integrity Layer):

Mica glass tape applied over the conductor. During a fire, mica insulates and maintains electrical continuity even after XLPE has burned away. This is what makes the cable "fire resistant" (circuit integrity) .

3. XLPE Insulation:

Cross-linked polyethylene provides:

Maximum conductor temperature: 90°C (normal operation)

Short-circuit temperature: 250°C

Low dielectric loss and excellent aging characteristics

4. Bedding/Inner Sheath:

PVC or HFFR (Halogen-Free Flame Retardant) extruded bedding protects insulation and provides a stable base for armor.

5. SWA (Steel Wire Armor):

Galvanized round steel wires applied helically. Provides:

Mechanical protection against impacts, crushing, and rodent attack

Suitable for direct burial and external mechanical forces

Can serve as a combined CPC (Circuit Protective Conductor)

6. Outer Sheath (Flame Retardant):

UV-stabilized flame retardant PVC (or optional HFFR/LSZH). Complies with EN 60332-3-24 Cat.C for flame spread limitation.
