Descrição de produto

Single Core AWA Armoured Cable 12/20kV | N2XSRY – YJV72 | CU/XLPE/CTS/AWA/PVC

Medium Voltage XLPE Insulated | Copper Tape Screened | Aluminium Wire Armoured | PVC Sheathed

Product Overview

The N2XSRY – YJV72 (CU/XLPE/CTS/AWA/PVC) is a single core, medium voltage armoured power cable rated at 12/20(24) kV, designed for primary power distribution networks where superior mechanical protection is essential. This cable combines a high-conductivity copper conductor with cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation, copper tape screen (CTS), and aluminium wire armour (AWA) for robust protection against mechanical stresses .

Fully compliant with IEC 60502-2, this cable is suitable for indoor and outdoor installations, direct burial, underground ducts, and applications requiring protection against electromagnetic interference and physical impact

Key Features

  • AWA Armouring – Aluminium wire armour provides excellent mechanical protection without the weight penalty of steel
  • Copper Tape Screen (CTS) – 100% coverage for superior electromagnetic shielding
  • XLPE Insulation – Rated for 90°C continuous operation, 250°C short-circuit
  • IEC 60502-2 Certified – Fully compliant with international medium voltage standards
  • Direct Burial Suitable – Robust construction for underground installation

Cable Code Cross-Reference

Construction Details

The cable features a carefully engineered construction for superior electrical and mechanical performance:

1. Conductor: Class 2 stranded compacted copper. circular compacted conductor for reduced diameter and enhanced conductivity. Meets IEC 60228

2. Conductor Screen:Extruded semi-conducting compound Bonded layer ensuring uniform electrical field distribution and preventing partial discharges

3. XLPE Insulation: Cross-linked Polyethylene Thermosetting insulation with high dielectric strength, rated 90°C continuous, 250°C short-circuit

4. Insulation Screen : Extruded semi-conducting compound Removable layer for stress control and field uniformity

5. Metallic Screen (CTS) :Copper tape (helically applied) Provides 100% coverage for electromagnetic shielding and fault current path. Optional: copper wire screen

6. Binder Tape :Non-hygroscopic material Holds components together and maintains circular shape

7. Inner Sheath (Bedding): PVC compound (ST2 grade) Separation layer between screen and armour, protects against moisture

8. Armour (AWA): Hard drawn aluminium wires Helically applied aluminium wires for mechanical protection. Lighter than steel with excellent impact resistance

9. Binder Tape: Non-hygroscopic material Secures armour wires in position

10. Outer Sheath: PVC compound (ST2 grade) UV resistant, flame retardant, black (red stripe optional)

Note: For 3-core cable configurations, steel wire armour (SWA) is typically used instead of AWA

Why Choose Aluminium Wire Armour (AWA)?

Feature Benefit
Lightweight AWA is approximately 1/3 the weight of steel armour – reduces transportation and installation costs
Corrosion Resistant Aluminium naturally forms a protective oxide layer, superior to galvanized steel in many environments
Non-magnetic Eliminates hysteresis losses in single core cables (critical for AC applications)
Excellent mechanical protection Withstands impact, crushing, and tensile stresses during installation and service
Cost effective Aluminium is more affordable than copper while providing robust protection

Standards & Certifications

Standard Description

IEC 60228 Conductors of insulated cables (Class 2 stranded)
IEC 60332-1-2 Flame retardancy (single vertical cable)
IEC 60332-3-22 (Cat. A/C) Flame retardancy (bunched cables) – optional

Applications & Suitable Industries

  • Power Distribution Networks – Primary and secondary distribution in 12/20kV systems, transformer feeders, substation connections .
  • Industrial Facilities – Power supply to heavy machinery, motors, and control systems in manufacturing plants, refineries, and chemical facilities.
  • Renewable Energy – Wind farm collection systems, solar park feeders, and battery storage connections.
  • Infrastructure Projects – Airports, metro systems, tunnels, and data centers requiring robust mechanical protection .
  • Utility Applications – Underground residential distribution (URD), direct burial in sandy or rocky soil conditions.
  • Oil & Gas – Refinery and petrochemical plant power circuits (with appropriate chemical resistance specifications).

Installation Suitability

Installation Type Suitability
Direct burial ✅ Excellent – AWA provides mechanical protection
Underground ducts ✅ Yes
Cable trays (indoor) ✅ Yes
Aerial (on cleats) ⚠️ Requires additional UV protection
Submerged/water ✅ Yes – PVC sheath provides moisture protection

Copper Tape Screen (CTS) Benefits

The copper tape screen (CTS) is a critical feature of this cable:

  • 100% coverage – Superior to braided screens (typically 70-85% coverage)
  • Effective EMI shielding – Protects nearby sensitive equipment from electromagnetic interference
  • Fault current path – Provides a low-impedance path for earth fault currents
  • Symmetrical electrical field – Ensures uniform stress distribution in the insulation system

According to industry specifications, the copper screen must have a minimum effective cross-sectional area based on conductor size

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Why is AWA (aluminium wire armour) specified instead of SWA (steel wire armour) for single core cables?

A: For single core AC cables, steel armour can create hysteresis and eddy current losses due to its magnetic properties. Aluminium wire armour (AWA) is non-magnetic, eliminating these losses while still providing excellent mechanical protection .

Q: What is the difference between N2XSRY and YJV72?

A: N2XSRY is the European/IEC designation, while YJV72 is the Chinese GB/T 12706 equivalent. Both describe the same construction: copper conductor, XLPE insulation, copper tape screen, PVC inner sheath, aluminium wire armour, and PVC outer sheath .

Q: What is the maximum conductor size available?

A: Up to 1000 mm² for copper conductor, and up to 800 mm² for aluminum conductor in single core construction .

Q: Can this cable be used for direct burial in rocky soil?

A: Yes. The AWA provides excellent mechanical protection against rocks and other underground hazards. However, sand bedding is still recommended as good practice .

Q: Is the cable flame retardant?

A: Yes. The PVC outer sheath meets IEC 60332-1-2 for single vertical cable flame retardancy. For enhanced flame retardancy (bunched cables), Cat. C to IEC 60332-3-22 is available upon request .

Q: What is the partial discharge level?

A: The cable is tested to ≤10 pC at 1.73 U₀ per IEC 60502-2 requirements, with some manufacturers offering ≤5 pC performance .

Q: Do you provide type test reports?

A: Yes. Complete IEC 60502-2 type test reports are available upon request, including thermal, electrical, and mechanical tests.
